This weekend we had a lovely drive to the Mary Valley, a picturesque area of Queensland located in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. The charming village of Imbil was hosting the 20th Mary Valley Arts Festival and what an impressive event that was, superbly organized by the volunteers who give up their time to make this such a success. We spent a rewarding morning browsing the wide range of quality artwork on display. I felt very proud that three of my watercolours were on show and excited and humbled to see that two of them had sold. These were "The Guys Next Door" a painting of three dogs peering over a garden fence and "Hanging Out" which depicts of row of country kids sitting on a fence. Some years ago I was at a festival in rural Queensland when I saw these children sitting on the fence of a paddock and took a photograph of them. The watercolour was my attempt to do the scene justice. I hope that both paintings are now giving lots of joy to their new owners.
