A Chip off the Old Block

I love this ancient saying, originally "a chip of the old block", meaning something that looks so like the original that it must have been cut from the same piece timber or stone. Family resemblances are always fascinating, and with Mother's Day in Australia just over a month away, I've been enjoying painting pairs of mother and child animals who resemble each other closely: cats and kittens; dogs and puppies; giraffes and their young. My aim was to make them meld together as if they really were of the same fabric. You can see some of the results at Shop 38 Kingaroy Art Gallery.
