A different kind of painting

The last couple of days were spent painting, not watercolours, but walls! The studio walls had become very grubby from splatters of paint and from a naughty gecko who leaves his calling cards everywhere! So the place needed a freshen-up and it gave me the chance to rearrange the furniture and equipment to give me more room to manoeuvre. One of the beauties of watercolour is that it can be done in a very small space - you just need a small corner - and the equipment and materials are so portable and simple that you can take them almost anywhere. Of course, it does help if you have a dedicated spot where you can leave your unfinished work out to return to later. (Because of the gecko I always cover my work-in --progress with tissue paper, just in case!) With a dedicated space, I think you are more likely to paint regularly. Of course, after you have been painting a while, the work accumulates and you need storage space too for framed and unframed works and space for framing and storage of framing materials. So in reality no studio can ever be big enough! Here is the painting area of my studio with a few of the characters I have been working on recently. I'm not sure they approve of my renovations!
