I love hares and have been really fortunate this past few months to have been able to observe them up close and personal as no fewer than SEVEN have been frequent visitors to our garden. It all started the night of an electrical storm when we discovered two bedraggled, wet and trembling baby hares cowering in the flower bed by the verandah. Soon two larger hares began to visit the garden to check on the babies. Not long after we noticed two medium sized hares - "teenagers" and finally a third baby appeared - triplets! They have visited us almost daily and come close enough to the house for me to photograph them from the kitchen window. It's a delight to watch them grazing, stretching, washing their faces, scratching, playing, racing each other and even kissing. That was the inspiration for this watercolour when I captured two of the babies rubbing noses. What else to call the painting but "KISSx"
The negative space around the two hares makes the shape of an X - a kiss! Happy Valentine's Day!
